Is Your Child's Development on Track?

From their first smile to their first steps, each milestone achieved is a testament to your child's growth and potential. Developmental milestones are guidelines for your child's growth and typical development. They include physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional skills acquired within specific age ranges. Although every child develops at their own pace, specific red flags can indicate delays. Understanding these milestones allows you to monitor your child's development, identify any delays, and celebrate achievements!

Key areas to observe:

  • Physical Development

  • Language Development

  • Cognitive Development

  • Social-Emotional Development

Here are some of the milestones that represent typical development in children. These milestones were developed by the Center for Disease Control through their "Learn the Signs. Act Early" campaign. To learn more, visit www.cdc.gov/actearly or download their free Milestone Tracker App through your app store.

Steps Towards Early Detection & Intervention

Addressing developmental delays early unlocks their potential in academics, social relationships, and overall well-being. Developmental delays might manifest as difficulties crawling or walking, lack of attention or problem-solving challenges, language delays or comprehension issues, or struggles expressing emotions and social interactions. If you notice these signs, consult your child's pediatrician promptly. Early intervention programs and services can help enhance brain development in young children and help them acquire essential skills more quickly. If you're seeing any delays, take these steps:

     1.  Consult professionals

     2. Explore early intervention services

     3. Implement home-based activities

     4. Connect with supportive communities
